One more thinking… about waiting.

It´s hard to wait… mostly when you are waiting to dive right into your dream. It´s being a nightmare moth after month. For those who don´t follow me, just tell that January 2007 is the schedule date I´ll be completely in the Cine and TV industry because now I´m involved in a Project at my University where I´m working since 2004. Well, I had to write it, just to smile when months later I re-read my words.

About assuming risks

Cinema is an Industry where nobody wants to take a risk… that´s the premise: to follow the orders given by those who put their money in a project. And, of course, I understand it… if my money was due to finance a film, I´d like everybody doing what I think is the best or at least paying strict attention to those I had left in charge.

But what really scares about this behaviour, it´s that everybody is frightened to make a decission out the major plans drawn months ago… everything has been calculated, no disorder wanted by accepting new strategies… It´s kind of confusing when you come across with something like this but you should get use to it if you consider a living from Acting. You are a piece of the scene, pieces rarely think by themselves… well, it´s something to think about…

The one with the improving skills

But which are the skills that must be improved? that´s an important question considering the amount of people who thinks of us -Actors- as non-professionals.

- Well, the most important is our voice, using it as a musical instrument… how to module it, the volume, the accent… how to speak properly, reading every word without any mistake…
- Second one could be the skill to memorize long texts…
- Analyze… the ability to examine methodically the script to find out where the action is, where do you come from, where are you leading to…
- Culture… knowledge of almost everything as a minimun… not an erudite of course but someone who is used to general knowledge to add it up to the performing of the role…
- Movements, the ability to control the space and gestures…

I could mention a complete list but these ones are really important… at least for me.

Hugs for everybody… Antonio

About skills and luck

It´s common to get involved in a conversation about this matters: skills and luck. You may think that it´s trivial but if you meditate it carefully, you´ll understand the whole dilema… because deeply in this industry, the 90% of the success concerns to luck and not to skills.

It´s easy to understand it if you trade places with a Director or Casting Director who is looking for a certain face, height, skin color, facial expression… that´s what really matters for you at that precise moment and skills will be a plus… you´ll prefer someone with the characteristics you need and a professional behaviour instead of a very talented actor/actress who is not responsible of his/her acts for example the recent news from “Lindsay Lohan” who might have cost thousands of dollars to the producers till they decided to terminate the contract due to her night parties and “you are late” shoutings on the set.

Well, I was just thinking out loud about this with my poor english and to incide in the fact that what you really need in this industry is a great deal of luck…

By the way, I´m now improving my skills just in case my well known good luck takes me to an opportunity… remember that I want to give the best of me from now to the end of my life.

Best regards,

How it all began

That´s the most common question from the Casting Directors“why this career?” and of course the most difficult to answer accurately because dreams start like a blur in the past and trying to put them into words is a hard task…
————————————————————-
Anyway, it´s very important to try an explanation to that extended question and here is mine:
————————————————————-
When I was a child I remember “perfoming” for the rest of my family… it could be a puppets show or an improvisation but always something related to the imagination… I even hid myself to sing the songs of Bosé and those spanish singers who arrived to south america at the times of yore… well, not really yore but 1970-1980 is close, for us, people of the 2000 years…
————————————————————-
Nevertheless, we were constantly moving from one country to another and, as a matter of fact, I abandoned somewhere and somehow my first intentions… maybe because there wasn´t any support from my closest family and friends…
————————————————————-
Later, when studying Architecture in Madrid - Spain, I joined two Theatre groups, named Cain and Ishtar and worked with them for three years in a row… we played from García Lorca to Sergi Belbel, Quim Monzó, through Benedetti and some independent script by our beloved Director Eduardo… that was a very pleasant experience and maybe the fastest way to lose any kind of fear regardind the stage and lights… but, AGAIN, my studies and some affairs as becoming the Student´s Union President, leading an assembly of hundred delegates, took me aside of my real interests…
————————————————————-
Jumping to 2005, you may see me giving another try, the last and definitve, to the entertainment industry… I know this is the real one, it´s something I feel not only into my heart but also into my mind… it´s the first time I´m working with both (brains and heart) to grow up as a whole persona… I assume that there are three possibilities making this choice: “stardom”, “making a living” or “absolute disaster”… I don´t know what luck is preparing for me, but I´m not giving luck any further chance so I´m preparing myself, studying arts, performing as often as I can, improving skills… becoming a talented Actor out of this old body… I have to oust a sort of fears and manners and I´ll be ready to be used as a “color” in a play or a film… Have no doubt that only death can stop me now
